Givenchy Spring 2016 Menswear: Riccardo Tisci Stays True To Form

Oh, and Naomi Campbell was there too. As if anything other than her mere presence on the runway matters, the supermodel stole the spotlight like only she could. Let’s review.

Fashion Gang. If you asked me to guess the designer of this collection without having an inkling of who sent these garments down the runway, the clear answer would still be Riccardo Tisci. The kind of brand identification that a garment possesses without the use of labels is arguably one of the key characteristics that makes a designer great.

Tisci has been designing for Givenchy for a decade. He’s found his groove. He’s true to his style and is absolutely in his element. His inspirations don’t change much. The Givenchy Spring 2016 menswear collection revisits the designer’s religion and memorializes his idea of Jesus on numerous garments throughout the collection. While I’m not a fan of Jesus staring up the crotch of what alternatively is a nice pair of shorts, the colors used were very visually pleasing. The silver lining.

There’s a lot to like in this collection. The layering is chicly done, the styling exudes confidence and frankly the men look damn good.  Another highlight of the collection were the womenswear pieces included in the show. Flapper and feather dresses worn by Mariacarla Boscono and Kendall Jenner offered an updated look to those found at one of Gatsby’s parties. Joan Smalls also hit the runway sauntering down in a tailored pinstripe suit equipped with a black bead band and bamboo earrings. Very badass.

And then there was Naomi Campbell. In all her glory. The fashion icon wore a sexy panty and bra with thigh high stocking boots and a similar pinstripe sports coat à la Joan Smalls. At 45 years old Naomi still commands the runway and grabs your attention with the strut of each perfectly toned and sculpted leg.  Queen Mother always reigns supreme.
