Despite last night’s extremely dry show (with the exception of Kendrick Lamar’s performance), the 2016 Grammy Awards red carpet didn’t disappoint.
2016 Grammy Awards Red Carpet: 6 Key Looks That Wowed
Remember when the Grammy Awards used to be entertaining? Yeah I can’t remember either. That’s three and a half hours of my life I won’t ever get back. At least we can revel in the fashion from the red carpet. There were many looks that I enjoyed but these six key looks really spoke to me. Let’s examine further.
1. Zendaya Channeling David Bowie in Dsquared².
How can you not love this young lady? She takes risks and plays with fashion the way a stylist can only dream of. Channeling the late David Bowie, Zendaya wore a double breasted suit from the Pre-Fall 2016 Dsquared² collection complete with an ombre mullet killing us all so slowly.
2. Jazmine Sullivan in Custom Michael Costello.
Despite being continuously snubbed by the Grammy Awards committee, Jazmine Sullivan stunned in a black custom Michael Costello gown. Sullivan worked the carpet with all her curves of glory. I live for this.
3. Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture.
In her usual black and white, Janelle Monae made a couture statement on the red carpet with a look straight off the Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Fall 2015 runway. This look is a lot but Janelle worked it and brought an element of creativity that’s always needed to complete the red carpet.
4. Seeing Red: Kehlani in Juan Carlos Obando.
Recording artist Kehlani brought the fire in a simple vibrant red Juan Carlos Obando Spring 2014 gown. Simplicity on the red carpet is always appreciated and Kehlani does simplicity well.
5. Ciara and Her Leg in Alexandre Vauthier.
That leg tho? Whew. Ciara really pushed the envelope with this look from the Alexandre Vauthier Couture Spring 2016 show and it was a success. Sexy yet sophisticated, Ciara showed just enough skin but not too much to cross the line of raunchy. And with a body like that, who’s complaining?
6. Beyoncé in an Angelic Gown From Inbal Dror.
You can always count on Beyoncé to hit you with a designer you’ve never heard of. This is a good thing, because truth be told, wearing the same designers that everyone else rotates gets old. Fast. But have no fear, Queen Bey pushed through in an angelic gown from Isreal based designer Inbal Dror’s 2016 collection. It’s safe to say she slayed it.
Until next year!
